Pluto Today, Uranus Tomorrow
This week in a stunning vote the International Astronomical Union voted to downgrade the status of Pluto down to a dwarf planet. Our solar system now consists of eight planets instead of the previous nine. The revised definition of a planet, states that planets must be large enough to clear the neighborhood around their orbits. Since Pluto has an eccentric orbit that veers inside Neptune's, it no longer meets the definition of a planet. As there are many lovers of Pluto, a Pluto backlash is developing, and there has been a proliferation of shirts made in Pluto's honor on Zazzle. Here is one of the funnier ones I found.
